It's
impossible to stop talking about the events that unfolded on the
11th since it wears such a heaviness in my heart. We couldn't get
through to our friends in Lower Manhattan, so we call up one of
their moms in Hong Kong to ask if she had heard from him. To our
relief, our friend was in another state on business when this whole
attack happened. We're so glad that he's safe but now I'm worried
about his 2 chow chows in his apartment! Our other friend, his wife
and children are still un accounted for but hopefully we'll hear
from them soon. I received a couple more emails from friends yesterday
letting me know of their whereabouts and their current situation.
I really apppreciate them for keeping me in the loop.
Aside
from the obvious calamity that has taken place, what is beginning
to distraught me even more so are the random phone calls and emails
to arab companies, middle eastern facilities, muslim and islam houses
of worship - threatening them all with violence and death. As understandable
and as frustrated we all are to the situation, why are there still
such narrow minded people in supposedly the world's greatest country?
The news played back many verbal messages left on machines of middle
eastern companies and the sound of men and women who were saying
such atrocities were unreal. Are we really living in 2001? Why do
people not comprehend that it was an act of terrorism by an independant
group of people and that it's not an act of terrorism by ethnic
association? The media continues to reiterate how similar the situation
is compared to what the Japanese Americans had to endure post the
Pearl Harbor attack. Here we are 50 years later and still no progress
in the thinking of mankind. That is immensely problematic, not to
mention pathetic.
I kept
on thinking about my friends who are indeed of Middle Eastern descent
and what they must be going through now. It's as if your face has
become a marked target for hate. And what about friends/people who
may look Middle Eastern but are not - what if you're Indian or of
darker complexion? Although not everyone is as ignorant as some
of the people heard on tv, there is something about mass fear and
a combined group's sense of influence on people who don't know better.
Anyway,
Ms. Got-Rice
wants everyone who can to donate blood in the Bay Area to do so
at:
http://www.beadonor.com
And
for the rest of you who are universal blood donors, like me, you
should most definitely go and donate asap. Give the Red
Cross a call at 1-800-GIVE-LIFE
and make your appointment.

I received
an email today from someone who found my site via Google using the
search words "bitchy chinese". It turns out I'm 3rd on
its list. (Gee, what a surprise) Leland Wong was kind enough to
drop me a line to tell me that and he was also nice enough to pass
along his URL. To my surprise, the URL that he provided is of his
graphic company - Atown
Graphics. I spent a good portion of the time after that in awe
of his artwork and his Asian styles in design. I really enjoyed
looking at his tshirt designs, posters and graphics of kois, dragons,
cranes and other Asian influences. I can most definitely see some
of these designs incorporated into a tattoo of some sort. Anyway,
go check out his site
and see for yourself. I especially had a good time looking at his
links list which ranged from Old Master Q to the popular HK singer
from the 70's Sam Hui (I love Sam Hui)! He also has separate site
for his photography.

Btw,
did you know that I updated again last night at 11:00pm on yesterday's
entry?
:::
I actually
have a couple funny stories to tell but today's not the day. Perhaps
in a few days.
I'm
out.
