crafty meal
january 20, 2004

met up with two very crafty girls for dinner last night. i wasn't sure how a sleep deprived aiyahchick was going to be but i'm glad that i didn't postpone the dinner and push it off to another time. i think meeting up with girls talking about websites, online journals and knitting, beading and sewing was just the thing i needed.

besides, sleep is overrated. :p

luckykat linda and pudgeefeet caroline were kind enough to meet up with me for japanese food. it was their first time to this japanese restaurant and i hoped they enjoyed their experience there. not only did they have to go out of their way to meet with me but they also were delivery gals for me as well. i picked up some fab bellaceti pieces from the designer herself and i also got a one of a kind knitting bag from the incredibly talented non-conventional seamstress, caroline, herself. it felt like christmas all over again! i can't wait to wear the new additions to my jewelry collection and to use my new knitting bag as well. (photos to come in the next entry)

i ordered one of my faves, udon suki (first food photo above). it's a really light flavorful broth with chunks of salmon, chicken, napa cabbage, mushrooms, veggies and udon noodles all infusing each other with their flavors. there's nothing quite like warm udon soup noodles on a chilly evening either.

linda got the tasty sukiyaki above. i usually love this dish but since i make this at home quite often, i don't get the desire to eat it out anymore. but they do indeed make a great one there. the sweetened shoyu broth interspersed with pieces of meat, tofu, shirataki noodles, mushrooms and green onions makes one hell of a tasty meal especially with a bowl of rice on the side. i usually like mine to come with a raw egg and some shichimi in it.

caroline opted for the tempura udon. a nice clear and simple dashi based broth with udon noodles and your choice of tempura on the side or in your bowl. i never had this there before but i see a lot of people eating this.

and of course we can't forget the rolls! unagi rolls, spicy tuna rolls, california rolls and spider rolls complete the order.

i had a great evening with the two of them and it's always so inspiring to talk to others who likes to do crafty things. i can't wait to meet up and talk shop again. :) and it's always nice to go out with younger gals, i actually feel younger thru association.

thanks for coming out you two!! :)

p.s. gotta get to work now.

i'm out.
