umai!

i didn't want to induce any more pain to you all by posting more self portraits. they are afterall quite self indulging to no one else but...me and perhaps maybe a few guys out there with a whole lotta imagination. so today, i bring you some good eats. it is what most of you come here for anyway right? i know it cannot be for the scintillating topics that i go into detail with nor for the photographs that i so painstakingly take and share with you all.

no...i KNOW it's for the food. afterall, too many of you have expressed it so. use me and abuse me. the story of my life man.

during the holidays, i ordered in a lot of good eats. being too tired to go out to fight the crowds and such, i just like to get food and bring it on home. i cannot tell you how much i love those 24 hour korean restaurants. what can be better than getting kim chi fried rice at 9am!?! and that's what i did. at 9am, i called for some kim bap (not shown here), kim chi fried rice (first photo at the top) and an order of the bibim kooksoo - spicy cold noodles with vegetables. this place really kicks ass and their menu is quite varied and suits my taste. i try to eat there most of the time because i just like the hole-in-the-wallness type of feel to it. and i like the way the ajumas look so tough and badass.

not to be forgotten, we also had japanese takeout as well during the holidays. we ordered an order of the chirashi deluxe and a tempura dinner from a local japanese eatery that we used to frequent regularly. they have since changed hands a couple times and we weren't impressed previously but decided to give it a try one more time. surprisingly, the food was quite tasty and the quality was very decent. i was really taken aback that we still have good japanese food in our area. everything seems so bastardized in the suburbs usually.

some of you might laugh at me but one of my FAVORITE chinese dishes is the lettuce wrap. although some of you have dined with me at chinese restaurants, you'll never know that i am secretly hoping to order this dish. a local eatery near home makes one using minced chicken meat instead of the traditional pigeon meat or duck meat. along with bits of waterchestnuts and tiny fried noodles - i absolutely adore this little chinese soft taco wrap as it sits inside the crisp refreshing lettuce shell doused with a bit of the hoisin sauce. mmmmmm.

during the holidays, i was eating quite a bit of this. i could just eat the lettuce wraps for dinner - 2 or 3 and nothing else. you can call me westernized but i admit it - i do like stuff like sweet & sour pork, mongolian beef, lemon chicken and of course lettuce wraps. so the next time you're having chinese food with me, you will know what i'm secretly longing for even though i won't dare ask to order it. :p

i'm out.
